"When one door is closed, another door opens" seems to be true to the Scott Keller family, who recently opened Keller's Pit BBQ at 105 Prospect Street East, Cambridge.

Keller previously ran Hawkeye Chem-Dry at Geneseo for 30 years until he retired earlier this year.

Keller was also diagnosed with a serious illness after he was seriously injured in a car accident in 2018. Keller's wife Teri and son Braden Keller are in charge of the carpet cleaning business. The family also bought a 1993 Dutch campervan, which they converted into a food trailer.

"People always tell me I should drive a food truck because I like to cook," Scott Keller said.

“We did open a food truck at the end of 2018. We first owned a food truck in Coal Valley and worked in the area for about three months; then we stayed in Geneseo’s (former) Save A Lot for three or four months, and finally Stayed in the Highland Pack in Corona for a few months," he said. "Then I got a license in Henry County and had a food truck next to the courthouse."

"When Covid came along and most restaurants were closed, we were busier than ever before," he said. "We are in the carpet business and food trucks. It seems that we have sold out food trucks wherever we go, so I know this is the direction I should go. I have no choice."

"After all the other misfortunes, I feel that God is calling me to work in the food industry," he added. "I did not renew my Chem-Dry franchise and withdrew from the business in January this year."

"I have always liked cooking, and I like to cook for people," he said.

Keller's Pit BBQ is located in the American Legion building where the food was previously served. Keller said that they have done a lot of renovation and renovation work.

"We updated everything, and now we have a complete kitchen," he said.

The current plan is to operate food trucks in the surrounding area in spring and summer.

Keller said: "I'm in the restaurant business is the responsibility of my daughter Brian Keller." "When she was in class at Geneseo High School, students had to create a project. She had an idea that we should make pizzas and sell them, It worked, so we will add pizza to the restaurant’s menu."

In addition, Keller's Pit BBQ will provide services similar to those provided by food trucks-smoked beef brisket, pulled pork and bacon bread sandwiches, as well as smoked turkey from time to time.

The menu includes other items as well as potato salad, coleslaw and baked beans.

Except for Scott and Terry Keller, Braxton and Brody, at home in Cambridge; Braden Keller and twins Breann and Brice Keller, all from Geneseo.
